For us, the journey inward can be as powerful as the one outward. This is not your typical holiday package. No overcrowded resorts. Less rigid itineraries. More space to breathe, explore, and reconnect - with yourself and with kindred spirits.

The story behind There She Goes
When my business partner, Marilu, and I started travelling together, we discovered that our sense of adventure was driving us to the same desired experience… transformative journeys that leave us in awe. As we explored this, we understood that this longing was not unique to us. We discovered a shared desire amongst many women – our kindred spirits - and There She Goes Journeys was born.
Our logo is the sea turtle. She is our guide, our spirit animal and our symbol of slow, soulful, transformative travel.
Our inspiration to choose her came from an otherworldly experience alongside a sea turtle in the Red Sea. To this day, we believe that our mesmerising turtle wasn’t just a design choice. She chose us:
We were snorkelling in the bay at Dahab, a Bedouin village in the Sinai desert on the shores of the Red Sea. No other divers, no distractions. Then she appeared. A sea turtle. Graceful, ancient, and aware. She swam beside us, allowing us to follow her across the bay, diving deep and rising again for air. A moment of presence, peace, and connection. We believe she felt safe with us. And in that moment, we felt… chosen.
In existence for over 110 million years, each sea turtle species is unique; they migrate thousands of kilometers, guided by the sun and the earth’s magnetic field. Yet they always return home - to the beach where they were born. Symbols of peace, wisdom, strength, and emotional grounding, many cultures see them as guardians, spiritual guides, and symbols of good luck.
So, it’s little wonder: We felt sea turtles are reminiscent of the women we travel with and represent everything we hope our journeys will offer: Adventure for those seeking new experiences; resilience for women who’ve weathered storms; wisdom for those seeking deeper truths; freedom for those ready to roam and home for those longing to return to themselves.

At There She Goes Journeys, we believe that travel is more than movement, it’s an adventure of transformation. And behind every journey, there are guides who walk the path with you.
We’re Esann and Marilu - friends, neighbours, and co-founders of There She Goes Journeys. We’ve shared over a decade of friendship and what feels like a lifetime of travel.
What began as casual exploration evolved into a shared philosophy: we are not tourists. We are travellers, and our journeys live both in the physical realm of exploring deserts and cities, diving underwater wonders and hiking ancient paths as well as in the abstract – of soulful experiences that bring us back to who we truly are.
We seek places that challenge and change us. Places where space, time, culture, and nature collide to create something unforgettable. Our journeys are not ‘escapes’ - they are immersions. We embrace the raw, real and beautiful. We know how to celebrate bliss and can also honour discomfort. Every experience leaves us richer, more aware, and more connected to ourselves and the world.
Marilu is a qualified town planner with 25 years of experience in business ventures outside tourism. She swims and bodyboards in the cold Atlantic almost daily and brings a grounded, adventurous spirit to every journey.
Esann is a journalist by training, a communications manager by profession and a writer by passion. She enjoys yoga and gets lost in long, reflective beach walks.
Music, theatre, art, poetry, reading, conversation and ridiculous laughter are other common denominators that keep us grounded, yet mindful not to take ourselves too seriously.
We live in a village on the West Coast of South Africa with our families - husbands, kids, cats and dogs included. We walk the beach, talk about the world, and dream up journeys that matter.
